Happy New Year!

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Happy New Year to all of our patients, colleagues, friends, and followers!!!   We hope that you had a wonderful holiday season – but  even if you never made it to the “ball drop” at New York’s Time Square, make sure that you don’t drop the ball on your dental treatment this coming year, 2012.

We have a number of new techniques and products that we will be “featuring” in 2012, both dental and non-dental. Included among them are Oraverse (that reverses the numbness from injections),  nitrous oxide (laughing gas for patients with dental anxiety), thinner and stronger porcelain veneers (both Lumineers and Dental Ceramic veneers), and even an iPad for the reception area!

It is our intention that these and other innovations will keep you smiling all year long!

Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics meeting

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Wendy and I just returned from the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics (ACE) meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, looking at the latest trends, materials, and innovations in general and cosmetic dentistry.  In terms of materials, changes in porcelain  – both in color and hardness – have revolutionized veneers and crowns.  The leader is the E-max porcelain, fabricated by Ivoclar, which is three to four times stronger than the previous porcelains. In fact, I visited the Ivoclar U.S. headquarters near Buffalo, New York, earlier this year to gain a greater understanding of the Empress, E.Max fabrication.  We have been using it for the past two years, and the color improvements have made it our go-to material for both veneers and crowns, both in the anterior and posterior areas of the mouth.

If  you’d like more information about it, or how we can use it in your mouth, please let us know!

American Academy of Cosmetic Meeting Recap

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Wendy and I just returned from Boston for the annual American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry – AACD – meeting.  It’s my favorite meeting of the year, as cosmetic dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and dental office staff from around the world meet for continuing education, exchange of ideas, and an exhibit hall full of new dental products.  Seminars are taught by people like ABC’s Extreme Makeover dentist Bill Dorfman and nationally known educators Dr. Frank Spear and Dr. Gordon Christiansen.  Through the AACD, I have met a number of my mentors in dentistry, including the late Dr. Bob Nixon, who not only was responsible for the innovations behind porcelain veneers but also taught me the procedures and techniques behind them in a  hands-on course.

Next May, the AACD meeting will be held in Washington, D.C.

Mother’s Day Makeovers on WKYC’s “Golden Opportunities”

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Please tune in to WKYC-NBC/channel 3’s “Golden Opportunities” on Sunday morning, May 8th at 11:30 am to watch “Mother’s Day Dental Makeovers” featuring a number of our patients.

Host Armond Budish (who also happens to be Minority Speaker of the House in Ohio) reviews some of the dental techniques that we use in our office to change our patients’ smiles – and their lives!  I had the opportunity to review techniques like porcelain veneers, ceramic crowns, and tooth-colored fillings and how they can be utilized to remake your smile and achieve dental health.

If there are topics you’d like to see featured on the show, or on our blog at www.ClevelandSmiles.com, please give our office a call at 1-440-461-1003.

Porcelain Veneers & Crowns

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

What type and strength of porcelain do we use in our crowns and veneers?

Over the years, we have transitioned to a non-metal practice, even in our partial dentures, with the help of Dental Ceramics Laboratories. We use Empress E-max porcelain, which is up to three times stronger that the other porcelains on the market. It not only creates an extremely strong and durable porcelain veneer, it is also quite beautiful!

For more information about these procedures, see our Dental Crowns and Porcelain Veneers pages.
