As we grow closer to the school year here in Northeast Ohio, we thought we might give some dental tips to our patients, friends, and followers.

Whether you are a student or teacher, it’s a good idea to come in for a check up/exam, cleaning, and X-rays before the school year begins. You can contact Karin or Diane at 1-440-461-1003, and they’ll be glad to assist you with an appointment. Please remember that we begin each day as early as 7:00 a.m. (We’ll even have the coffee and orange juice ready for you!)

If any of your family members play sports in school, college, or the NFL or NBA, they should consider wearing a mouth guard. Even LeBron wears one! A sportsguard, which can be made in the colors of the school, can protect teeth when they are jarred. In fact, one of the worst dental accidents I have seen involved a volleyball player who avulsed (i.e. broke out) her front two teeth catching the bottom of the net; though we were able to replant them to keep them in her mouth, both needed root canal treatment and later veneers due to the darkening of the teeth.

It’s also not a bad idea to pack floss, or a “flosscard,” with your lunch to keep teeth free from debris. And while you’re packing, you might include a bottle of water – just make sure it has fluoride in it to protect the enamel. Dannon has a small bottle that contains fluoride that we take with us on our trips.

Lastly, if you want to have the brightest smile in school, call us and set up an appointment for a Zoom teeth whitening. In an hour and a half, you can get a brighter, more beautiful smile!
