Watch Our Television Appearances Online

Monday, January 16th, 2012

I was recently asked by a new patient if there was a way to view some of our recent segments on WKYC/channel 3’s “Golden Opportunities.”  She said that she had “discovered” us by watching the show last week and appreciated that we were giving out education in dentistry that could not be found anywhere else on television.  She wanted to learn more than she had gotten on that one segment.

In fact, there were a number of ways to see our appearances on previous shows, both from “Golden Opportunities” and the weekday show “Good Company.”  They can be found here on our website, on the Cleveland Smiles Facebook Page,  www.GoldenOpportunities.tv, www.WKYC.com/GoodCompany, the Cleveland Smiles Channel on YouTube, and in our office by slipping in a DVD into our new flatscreen TVs (all you have to do is ask)!

Innovations in Patient Service: iPads, Coffee & Snacks!

Monday, November 21st, 2011

We always try to be one of the most innovative dentist in Cleveland, and to that end we are hoping to integrate the Apple iPad to make it easier for our patients to update their medical conditions when entering our office. We will have it available in our reception room to fill out patient registration forms and dental/medical forms.  It will also be available to use to connect to the internet to check your e-mails and browse the Internet.  It can also be used to send in post-treatment evaluations for Angie’s List and other web-based review sites.   If you would like to use it, just ask Afsaneh or Karin, and they will be glad to assist you!

As long as I am speaking about our reception area, we have been getting a number of favorable comments about our choice of magazines and our “food area,” which includes Kashi bars and Snyders pretzels, as well as a selection of  coffees, including Green Mountain and Starbucks.  If there is any other brand you’d like to see, please tell us.  The same thing applies to our magazine selections, which include “The New Yorker,” “Vanity Fair,” “Town and Country,” and the ubiquitous “People Magazine!”

American Academy of Cosmetic Meeting Recap

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Wendy and I just returned from Boston for the annual American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry – AACD – meeting.  It’s my favorite meeting of the year, as cosmetic dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and dental office staff from around the world meet for continuing education, exchange of ideas, and an exhibit hall full of new dental products.  Seminars are taught by people like ABC’s Extreme Makeover dentist Bill Dorfman and nationally known educators Dr. Frank Spear and Dr. Gordon Christiansen.  Through the AACD, I have met a number of my mentors in dentistry, including the late Dr. Bob Nixon, who not only was responsible for the innovations behind porcelain veneers but also taught me the procedures and techniques behind them in a  hands-on course.

Next May, the AACD meeting will be held in Washington, D.C.

American Academy of Cosmetic Meeting

Monday, May 16th, 2011

In late May, we’ll be attending the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.  This annual meeting brings together general dentists and cosmetic dentists from all over the world.  When I first attended this meeting in the 1990s, there were only a few hundred dentists attending, mostly from the United States.  This year’s meeting will have thousands of dentists from all over the world exchanging information, ideas, and techniques.  It is truly the finest meeting of its kind.

I can’t wait to share with you the latest and greatest from the world of dentistry on my return.  Happily, we have managed to introduce many innovations in our Brainard Place office, including Itero digital impressions, digital x-rays, intraoral photography, and the dental laser.  My first exposure to many of these instruments came at previous AACD meetings.

Greater Southwest Dental Meeting

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

I recently attended the “Greater Southwest Dental Meeting” in Phoenix, Arizona, where I had the opportunity to personally meet with Jim and Naomi Rhode, nationally-known speakers and the develpers of SmartPractice, a dental consulting and product firm.  These two fine people have inspired thousands of dentists and their staffs to provide fabulous care for their patients.  Visiting with them is a special treat for both me and my wife, Wendy, as their optimism and values are contagious; they, too, have the passion for general and cosmetic dentistry that we have!  (Naomi is a member of the Speakers Hall of Fame, and is the sister of Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity “Achievement Award”  winner Dr. Omar Reed).

P.S. I was able to see the Cleveland Indians play twice in Goodyear, Arizona, against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox, who had my favorite player, Omar Vizquel, at shortstop.  The Tribe looked good, but we still need “pitching, pitching, and more pitching!”
